My Zayde, Benjamin (Boruch) Sheintop and his younger brother, Abie (Abraham), came to Hartford, Conn. from Ludmir in 1913. He rarely spoke directly of the old country. My Mother, the oldest child, had all the family relationships in her memory, but, again, little history of Ludmir.

He was a schoolmaster in Ludmir and in the Pinkas Ludmir yizkor book (1962 Tel Aviv), he appears as a member of the 1910-1912 Cutltural Committee (p. 236). In Connecticut, he and “Uncle Abie” became house painters &, later, he and Bubbe owned a small neighborhood store in the North End of Hartford..

From some 30-35 years, Zayde Benny was the Secretary-Treasurer of the First Ludmir Benevolent Association in Hartford.

“[This book] is very well written with a lot of detail and interesting personal take on everything. An easy read and yet very deep.”

My family was LAKRITZ family; several brothers emigrated to the US in the early 20th century and settled in Milwaukee, leaving many Lakritzes behind in Ludmir.

Hello, My dad William Zucker (d 2017), a photographer and his brother Chaim (“Fimka”) (d, 1997) a dentist, were the only ones in their family who survived the war. The family is from Ludmir. The father Yitzhak, died around 1939 of cancer. The mother Rachel and two daughters Sarah and Gittel were victims of the Eizengruppen killing squads and buried in mass graves in Piatydne. One other brother Yechiel, a photographer, reportedly was killed in Sokol.

I am looking for any information about our family, as there is no documentation. Pictured is my father’s mother Rachel.

Beautiful piano music by the way. Thank you for your efforts!
